Dr Justyna Zeler from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Wrocław has won PLN 2 459 520 from the National Science Centre as part of the OPUS 25 competition, thanks to which she will realise the project ‘Glow and luminescence thermometry of nanoluminophores and their biomedical potential’. Physicists from the University of Aveiro in Portugal have indicated their willingness to join the project.

The main objective of the research is the design, synthesis and in-depth spectroscopic characterisation of luminescent materials that can be useful for optical imaging of tumour tissues and simultaneous temperature reading through the strongly temperature-dependent luminescence effects of nanoluminophores.

This will allow precise control of local hyperthermia in personalised cancer therapy, making it more effective and safer.
