Warsaw University of Life Sciences developing post-harvest technology for mini-kiwi fruit

10.02.2021

The Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) inaugurated a project “Development of an optimal post-harvest technology for mini-fruit and construction of a prototype of a non-invasive fruit sorting module (MODOM)”.

The work of the team led by Dr Piotr Latocha, SGGW, and Dr Eng. Monika Janaszek – Mańkowska, will last 22 months.

The aim of the project is to optimize the post-harvest procedure for minikiwi fruit (Actinidia arguta), including the determination of the temperature regime, the development of a prototype of a fruit sorting module in terms of maturity, and the development of an optimal refrigerated storage technology.

The research works assume the development and then validation of algorithms for assessing the degree of ripeness of mini-kiwi fruit, which will result in the creation of a prototype device for automatic sorting with a vision module.
