Young scientists to help the blind

21.01.2021

Julia Kalinowska, a student of the University of Warsaw (UW) and Paweł Śpiechowicz, a student of the Warsaw University of Technology (PW) are working on a mind printer that will allow to write notes in Braille. Similar devices are already on the market, but only fully capable people can operate them. This invention will be groundbreaking.

Julia Kalinowska studies biotechnology at the University of Warsaw and Inter-Faculty Individual Studies in Mathematics and Natural Sciences, while Paweł Śpiechowicz studies aviation and astronautics at the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology.

-While designing our solution we must think if we will be able to handle it with our eyes closed. It must be a fully wireless device, compact, smaller than a standard printer and lightweight – explains Paweł Śpiechowicz, the project’s co-author.

-We can say any note to the built-in microphone, the algorithm converts the user’s words  into the source code and the scoring head, under which the rolled paper moves, imprinting a specific sequence of characters on the paper – adds the young scientist.
