First international voice in research on children’s literature at the University of Wrocław

The Center for Literature Research for Children and Youth of the University of Wrocław is inviting participants to the first lecture in the program “International Voices in Children’s Literature Studies”. The guest of the Wrocław university will be Prof. Marina Balina from the American Illinois Wesleyan University. The event will be held on March 8 on the MS Teams platform.

Her lecture “Writing Ancient History as” Oppositional Enlightenment”: On Historical Novels in Soviet Children’s Literature of the 1960s – 1970s” is devoted to the function of ancient history as “oppositional enlightenment” in historical novels in Soviet children’s literature of the 1960s and 1970s. Prof. Balina will focus on the creation and transformation of the historical canon in Russian children’s literature.

Prof. Balina is the author of numerous articles and the editor of eleven monographs on children’s and youth literature, incl. “Hans Christian Andersen and Russia” (University Press of Southern Denmark, 2020).
