Kielce and Warsaw scientists designing an innovative fire extinguisher to extinguish fires in photovoltaic installations

21.04.2021

Scientists of the Kielce University of Technology and the Warsaw University of Technology are working on an innovative fire extinguisher that can be used in cases of fires in photovoltaic installations.

Although such cases are extremely rare, but with the development of solar energy, tools for effective action in a case of a fire are necessary.

It will be a two-chamber extinguishing device containing two extinguishing agents. The first one will cut off the power supply to the installation, while the second one will extinguish the fire source. It will be an innovative solution, so far there is no such product on the market, not only in Poland, but also in the whole world – explains Dr Eng. Rafał Porowski, the Kielce University of Technology, originator of the solution.

Co-financing for the project in the amount of PLN 3.7 million was granted by the National Center for Research and Development in the “Fast Track” competition under the Intelligent Development program. The product should reach the market in the first half of 2023.
