Krakow researchers search for new obesity markers

The ‘Biochimica et Biophysica Acta’ and the ‘International Journal of Molecular Sciences’ published the results of research by a team of Magdalena Szczerbowska-Boruchowska, PhD, from the Department of Medical Physics and Biophysics of the Faculty of Applied Physics and Informatics at the AGH University of Science and Technology (AGH) in Krakow, and Agata Ziomber-Lisiak, PhD, from the Department of Pathophysiology at the Jagiellonian University Collegium Medicum (UJ CM) in Krakow, which aimed to search for new markers for detecting so-called early obesity.

The researchers decided to use analytical tools based on X-ray fluorescence analysis to monitor changes in trace elements in rat tissues that occur with the development of obesity. Their aim was to identify markers of the early stages of obesity among chemical elements.
