Dr Eng. Maciej Szeląg from the Department of General Construction of the Lublin University of Technology (PL) will develop an intelligent model of designing cement composites that will be as resistant to high temperatures. Scientists from the Lulea University of Technology in Sweden will participate in the research.

Thanks to the designed solution, it will be easier and faster to assess the degree of degradation of cement products subjected to thermal stress. This is important for the safety of buildings and other engineering structures that have been exposed to, for example, fire.

“Our task is to develop an intelligent model based on an artificial neural network to determine the fracture energy of a thermally degraded cement matrix. To do this, we must carefully examine the relationships: material – thermal load – crack structure and their development. Understanding these relationships will allow you to fully understand the process of concrete degradation under the influence of high temperature – says Dr Maciej Szeląg.
