Research funding was one of the main topics of the meeting between the Minister of Science and Higher Education Dariusz Wieczorek and the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

“We are keen to see an increase in R&D spending in Poland. We are aiming to reach the level of the European average”, declared the head of the Ministry of Science.

Minister Dariusz Wieczorek emphasised that the strengthening of the role of the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBiR) will enable more effective spending on scientific research. “We want to use the effects of the work of the entire scientific community in practice. We are planning to organise and strengthen the NCBiR. A bill to this effect has been submitted”, he informed.

The head of the Ministry of Science also announced work on the new scoring of journals, which will be conducted in cooperation with the Commission for the Evaluation of Science. We have agreed with the Commission for the Evaluation of Science that new criteria for the list of journals must be prepared. “I declare that I will not change the provisions of this list manually, respecting your knowledge and experience”, assured Minister Wieczorek.
