A new, safe and effective method of removing drugs from the body has been discovered by scientists at the Krakow University of Technology in collaboration with researchers from Polish research centres in Krakow and Lublin.

They propose to use Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) as carriers for drugs from the so-called β-blocker group, used to detoxify the body from intoxicating substances. The effects of their work on an innovative method of propranolol administration in the case of mephedrone overdose were described by a research team led by Professor Przemysław Jodłowski in the prestigious Chemical Engineering Journal.

In addition to the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology of the Krakow University of Technology, the project involves the Medical University of Lublin, the Institute of Rock Mechanics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Faculty of Chemistry of the Jagiellonian University and the Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow.
