Polish scientists work out unique device to use one ventilator to handle two patients

The Institute of Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) has developed a unique device that allows one ventilator to serve two patients – said Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Wojciech Maksymowicz.

From Tuesday, March 24, the production of the device will begin at the Institute of Medical Equipment and Technology in Zabrze, belonging to the Łukasiewicz Research Network.

By April 10, 100 such devices should be manufactured, they will be able to be used according to a research program headed by scientists from the Medical University of Gdańsk, the Medical University of Lublin and the Medical College of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn – added Maksymowicz.

The design of the device, which allows one ventilator to handle two patients, has been co-financed by the Ministry of Science with the amount of PLN 5 million.
