University of Silesia patents solution for more accurate diagnosis of colorectal cancer

23.03.2020

Researchers of the University of Silesia (University of Silesia) have developed new styrylquinoline derivatives. Favorable physicochemical parameters of these compounds will enable their application for imaging of biological structures in cancer diagnostics, especially colorectal cancer. The solution has been covered by patent protection.

Fluorescent dyes are chemical compounds used in medical diagnostics for the imaging of organs and cells. They can be successfully used to assess the size of a tumor or to determine its location. This is especially true for surgical cancer treatments. Most diagnostic and histopathological methods are based on the use of selective dyes.

The authors of the new application of para-iminostyrylquinoline derivatives are: Dr Anna Mrozek-Wilczkiewicz, Dr Katarzyna Malarz, Dr Robert Musioł and Dr Barbara Czaplińska.
