The European Commission, through The Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA), has established the DURABLE European Scientific Network to support the European Union in preparing for and responding to biological and health threats and in assessing the impact and selecting optimal countermeasures.

The network started on 1 February this year and received initial funding of €25 million. The DURABLE action will complement the activities of existing institutions, such as the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.

The DURABLE project is coordinated by the Paris Pasteur Institute and brings together nineteen top-class European laboratories. The only representative of the network in Poland will be the Virogenetics team led by Professor Krzysztof Pyrcio, at the Jagiellonian University’s Malopolska Biotechnology Centre.
