Prof. Maria Mendel, University of Gdańsk, was awarded the Jan Heweliusz Scientific Award of the City of Gdańsk for 2020 in the field of humanities and social sciences.
The most important scientific distinction in Pomerania, called the Pomeranian Nobel Prize, was awarded to the professor for her outstanding achievements in the field of social sciences, the concept of pedagogy of place and the theory of common place, and contribution to the development of research on the spaces of subjectivity.
The laureate is an outstanding figure of the Polish humanities and social sciences. She is a social pedagogue, recognizable in international scientific organizations, a researcher of the space of subjectivity relating to parents in education and marginalized environments, and the author of the concept of place pedagogy, developed in the formula of socially engaged research. Due to the high level of internationalization of scientific activity, she is called a global researcher and the ambassador of Gdańsk.
