Researcher at the University of Gdańsk receives a grant from the Foundational Questions Institute

06.09.2021

Dr Tomasz Paterek, the University of Gdańsk received an American grant from the Foundational Questions Institute from the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science of the University of Gdańsk. This will enable to establish cooperation between theoretical physicists and artists to create a mobile art installation inspired by polarization and quantum physics.

-My favorite topic of everyday work is the basics of physics. Today they are based on two pillars – quantum physics and Einstein’s theory of gravity. We design experiments that can demonstrate the quantum features of gravity and thus point the way to a unified description of all physics. The FQXi grant is somewhat parallel to my scientific interests and supports the popularization of quantum ideas. The artist will create a dynamic space made of glass and light, which will illustrate such quantum phenomena as “being in several places at the same time” or the boundaries of the division between the observer and the observed system – says the laureate.
