Scientist from the Gdańsk University of Technology awarded as the most talented young scientists in Poland

08.06.2020

Dr Eng. Miłosz Wieczór from the Department of Physical Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry of the Gdańsk University of Technology was among the scholarship holders of the Foundation for Polish Science in the START program. The program aims to support outstanding young scientists.

The scholarship holder is a co-author of 16 publications in the Philadelphia List magazines (including Nucleic Acids Research, Journal of the American Chemical Society), cited a total of 132 times (according to Google Scholar). His research interests include mechanisms of binding and recognition of sequences in protein complexes with DNA, as well as the effect of DNA modification (damage and epigenetic markers) on the biological function of nucleic acids.

As part of his postdoctoral internship, the young scientist is currently working at the Barcelona Institute for Biomedical Research on a project regarding the relationship between DNA damage and modification and epigenetics, i.e. a way of interpreting genetic information in human cells.
