The Jerzy Giedroyc Prize was established by the Senate of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS) in Lublin and has been awarded since 2001 for research on the heritage of the Paris “Kultura” or for the creative continuation of Jerzy Giedroyc’s scientific legacy. The competition is addressed to authors of “monographs and collective publications based on previously unused or newly interpreted source materials and bringing new findings to the research on a given issue”.

The main topic of the book “When will the war break out? 1938. Study of a crisis” is the 1938 Czechoslovak crisis leading to the “Munich treason”. The justification of the award the jury emphasized the originality of the structure and the insightfulness of the author’s assessments, who “like a journalist of a TV program, leads us to a dozen cities in Czechoslovakia and Europe, where the key events, determining the dynamics of the crisis, emotions and the final result, took place”.
