Two scientists from the University of Silesia received funding for research projects at the Faculty of Earth Sciences. The money – almost 1.7 million PLN is allocated from the Sonatina 3 competition, organized by the National Science Center.
Thanks to co-financing, Dr Dawid Surmik will implement the project “Osteopathology in the fossil record as a carrier of paleoecological and paleoepidemiological information” (co-financed with the amount of PLN 772 070), and Dr Ashley Gumsley will examine “Implications of U-Pb geochronology of apatite for aid processes in the area of Kraton Kaapvaal, Africa” co-financed with the amount of PLN 927 545).
The Sonatina is a competition addressed to scientists with a PhD title held for no longer than 3 years. The grant covers full-time employment of the laureate in a Polish research unit, implementation of a research project and an internship in a foreign research center lasting from 3 to 6 months. The project implementation period may last 24 months or 36 months.
