Scientists of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology to create biodegradable packaging for frozen food

13.11.2020

Scientists of the department of environmental engineering of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology are working on biodegradable packaging for the storage of deep-frozen food, which will be safe for users, durable and environmentally friendly.

The Biofoodpack project started in 2018 and is implemented within an international consortium consisting of the University of Aveiro and the University of Minho from Portugal, Cyprus University of Technology from Cyprus, Wrocław University of Science and Technology and Portuguese companies Nutrigreen S.A. and Energy Pulse Systems.

The main goal is to create packaging from biodegradable materials derived from renewable raw materials, which will also extend the shelf life of the food stored in it. In addition, the packaging will allow the sterilization of food with electrical impulses without releasing harmful elements into it.
