INZNAK – the technology of smart road signs for adaptive traffic control, developed at the Department of Multimedia Systems of the Gdańsk University of Technology, was awarded the “Teraz Polska” emblem in the “Innovations” category.
The main object of the invention is to prevent congestion in road traffic and the resulting collisions of vehicles on highways and expressways. The signs from the INZNAK system communicate the speed calculated on the basis of the traffic they are examining and the information received from a sequence of similar signs with variable content, located along the motorway section.
The recommended driving speed is displayed on a sign, equipped with an innovative, modular electronic display, and also transmitted wirelessly to vehicles equipped with a V2X interface (electronic communication system interface: vehicle-infrastructure). The project was co-financed by European funds from the National Center for Research and Development.
