Students of the Silesian University of Technology win the International Competition “Re-connect”

23.03.2021

Pola Sięka and Paulina Ryszka, students of interior design at the Silesian University of Technology, received the main prize in the international competition “Re-connect”. The theme of the competition was street furniture and small architecture objects. The participants’ task was to design furniture for public spaces, taking into account the principles of social distance.

The jury of the competition appreciated the “ECO-MODULAR” project – a proposal of modular benches, which partitions are made by natural vegetation areas. Street furniture designed by students of the University of Technology will not only help to keep the distance between people, but can also become an interesting, modern and environmentally friendly element of public space. The designers intended that the benches were located in the Silesian Park – a meeting and recreation place for the inhabitants of nearby cities.

According to the judges of the competition, the project is universal and can be used in larger and smaller cities, as well as countries with a diverse climate.
