The European Commission has launched the ACTRIS ERIC consortium for European research infrastructures for aerosols, clouds and trace gases. Among the founding countries is Poland, represented by ACTRIS-PL, which includes, among others, the University of Silesia.

ACTRIS is a research infrastructure for the study of the environment, where the collected and accumulated measurement results are compiled and integrated into a central database. ACTRIS-PL focuses on the measurement of aerosols, which are a poorly understood climatic factor and one of the components of smog, as well as the study of clouds and the interaction of aerosols with clouds.

The ACTRIS-PL consortium comprises: Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, University of Warsaw, University of Wrocław (leader), Institute of Fundamentals of Environmental Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Institute of Meteorology and Water Management PIB, University of Life Sciences in Poznań and University of Silesia.
