University of Warsaw to hold a scientific conference “Poetics of protest”

05.03.2021

The Scientific Club of Theory of Literature “Parabaza” of the Faculty of Polish Studies of the University of Warsaw (UW) together with the employees of the Department of Poetics, Theory of Literature and Methodology of Literary Research are organizing on March 6-7, 2021 the scientific conference “Poetics of protest”.

The organizers of this online event are interested in the issues of rebellion, demonstration or opposition from multiple perspectives. During the conference, they will try to answer to the following questions: How can a revolution be inscribed in the structure of a literary work? What is literature’s “activity” in the time of social unrest? How are the slogans on banners structured? What contexts do they evoke?

The organizers also propose a reflection on the relationship between individual researchers or humanistic theories with expressions of social resistance. They also do not avoid reflection on specific protests or the very phenomenon of opposition. They want to ask if the tools of literary studies – and other humanities or social sciences – can prove useful in analyzing different types of rebellion.
