Researchers at the Bialystok University of Technology (PB) are developing innovative noise barriers. For this purpose, they will use giant wind turbine blades that lie on landfill sites in the vicinity of wind farms, particularly in western Poland.

“With a group of scientists, we noticed that there are huge problems with the disposal of wind turbine propellers, which have reached the end of their life cycle or are being replaced by more technically efficient solutions. The life cycle of a wind propeller is on average 20-25 years. This means that after 2035, approximately 225 000 tonnes of used propellers should be recycled”, explains the genesis of the research by Dr Mirosław Broniewicz, Prof. Mirosław Broniewicz, from the Department of Civil Engineering and Building Mechanics, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences, PB.

Researchers from three polytechnics are working on the project: Białostocka, Rzeszowska and Lubelska, associated in the Via Carpatia Polytechnic Network.
