Wroclaw Medical University signs the Magna Charta Universitatum

15.07.2021

The Medical University of Wrocław joined the Magna Charta Observatory Association based in Bologna. The Magna Carta Universitatum declaration was signed by the rector of the university, Prof. Piotr Ponikowski.

The Declaration was created and signed for the first time in 1988. It contains the principles of academic freedom and institutional autonomy as guidelines for good governance, the independence of research and education free from all political influence and economic interests, and the rejection of intolerance. The new version of the document has been enriched with provisions related to the challenges of the present times: activities to protect the planet, promote health, quality of life and education around the world.

The Magna Charta Observatory organization supervises the observance of the principles contained in the declaration. Participation in it is aimed at strengthening the role of universities by exchanging experiences and establishing cooperation with other recognized universities.
