Researchers from the University of Life Sciences in Wrocław have carried out accurate measurements of the Tatra peaks. As a result, many atlases and textbooks will have to be corrected. In fact, Świnica turned out to be one metre higher, Skrajny Granat on Orla Perc three metres higher, and the border post on Rysy is already 2500 m above sea level.

The campaign to measure the heights of the peaks in the High and Western Tatras was carried out by scientists from the Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics at the Wrocław university. To carry out the measurements, they travelled a total of more than 231 km of trails, covering an altitude difference (up and down) of 39963 m, more than four times the height of Mount Everest!

The measurements were taken under the auspices of the Tatra National Park. The measurements were based on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) satellite observations: GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou using high-precision, multi-frequency geodetic receivers, reads the university’s website.
