Wrocław University of Science and Technology students win the international competition Coliving California

29.06.2021

Students of the Faculty of Architecture at Wrocław University of Science and Technology won the international competition Coliving California. Their task was to design an environmentally friendly housing estate in which residents share a common space and live in an integrated community.

Students have planned a dozen three-story buildings with attics. Each house consists of two residential parts with bedrooms, kitchens and bathrooms, connected by a vertical common part – serving both as a staircase and a space for shared rest, eating or simply integrating.

The construction of the facilities will be made of glued timber, considered as a construction solution that can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions (due to the production process). The facades of the buildings would be made of a cork, exported from the United States, which, due to its insulating properties, would be ideal for protection against the Californian heat.
