Karolina Brończyk, PhD student at the Faculty of Food Sciences and Nutrition at the University of Life Sciences in Poznań,  received funding for a doctoral project as part of the twelfth GIRACT’s European PhD in Flavor Research Awards.

The laureate’s doctoral thesis “Migration of chemical compounds in contemporary food packaging – characteristics and main causes” is carried out within two scientific disciplines: chemical science and food technology and nutrition.

The winner deals with the subject of biodegradable packaging as modern alternatives to plastics. The main objective of the research is to determine the effect of the type of packaging material and the physicochemical conditions of storage (time, temperature, sunlight) on the intensity of interactions between the bio-packaging material and food in direct contact with it.
