Best dissertations in forensic medicine and criminology

The Chapter of the 1st Polish Society of Forensic Medicine and Criminology (PTMSiK) and Archives of Forensic Medicine and Criminology (AMSiK) thesis competition has selected the best doctoral and master’s thesis defended between 1 January 2021 and 30 September 2022.

In the category of best doctoral thesis, 1st place was awarded to Dr Magdalena Kukla-Bartoszek from the Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology at Jagiellonian University in Krakow for her thesis “Genetic prediction of human pigmentation characteristics – implementation of the HIrisPlex-S predictive tool and searching for improvements”.

No main prizes were awarded in the best thesis category. However, an honourable award was given to Kaja Tusiewicz (Forensic Toxicology Laboratory, Department of Forensic Medicine, Medical University of Wrocław) for her work ‘Determination of ethylene glycol together with the metabolite glycolic acid in post-mortem biological material using gas chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (GC-QqQ-MS/MS)’.
