Minimum salaries of professors in public universities to increase by 12.5 per cent in 2023

The Ministry of Education and Science (MEiN) is preparing regulations on the minimum basic salary of a professor in a public university. It is envisaged that the regulation will enter into force on the day following the date of promulgation with effect from 1 January 2023.

As MEiN reports, the regulation is expected to contribute to an increase in the remuneration of academic teachers employed in public higher education institutions and scientific employees of research units of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

The proposed regulations envisage an increase in the salary of a professor from PLN 6,410 to PLN 7,210, which is an increase of approximately 12.5 per cent.

According to the Act on Higher Education and Science, the amount of monthly basic remuneration in a public university for academic staff may not be lower than 50 per cent of the professor’s remuneration, but for a university professor – not less than 83 per cent, and for an assistant professor – not less than 73 per cent.
