Model of the autonomous ship of the Maritime University of Szczecin passed the tests on Lake Głębokie

01.02.2021

The model of the autonomous ship constructed at the Maritime University of Szczecin has successfully passed the operation tests of the entire computer system and measurement and navigation equipment. Its equipment and communication with the land station were tested on the Głębokie Lake.

In the open water area, engineers confirmed that the installed system, fully equipped with measurement sensors and navigation devices, allows for the performance of all functions during autonomous control. The autonomous model control software itself has not been studied in detail – such tests are planned in the next stage of experimental research.

The tests confirmed that the applied propulsion system (two aft azimuth thrusters and two bow thrusters) offer excellent maneuvering properties necessary for a real autonomous ship.

The model of an autonomous ship was created at the Department of Ocean Engineering and Shipbuilding. The model is 3.15 m long, 0.46 m wide, 0.17 m draft.
