The jury of the “Polityka” weekly competition awarded Prof. Maria Halamska from the Institute of Rural and Agricultural Development of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) Historical Award in the category of scientific works for the monograph “Continuity and Change. Polish village 1918-2018. In search of the sources of the present”.

“It is a hundred-year history of the Polish countryside, whose inhabitants constituted the majority of the country’s population until the mid-1960s. The significance of the considered topic under consideration matches with an in-depth analysis and wide use of the achievements of social sciences, and at the same time with brevity” – writes Prof. Dariusz Stola.

The jury of the competition emphasized that the book has cognitive and popularizing values, it presents the history and the present of the Polish countryside, its population, institutions, economic and political conditions and the cultural models. It describes the evolution and importance of the countryside.

The monograph is an original synthesis based primarily on the analyzes carried out in the project “Continuity and change – one hundred years of rural development and agriculture in Poland” implemented in 2015-2020 at the Institute of Rural and Agricultural Development of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
