Scientists from the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Silesia designed a system to monitor respiratory function, including the frequency and strength of breathing. The device consists of many components. It uses innovative solutions submitted to the patent office. Two of them have just been patented.
The most important features of the device are small size and relatively simple structure, energy saving – thanks to the use of a radio interface and the possibility of cooperation with various mobile devices. Particularly noteworthy is the design of a new data transmission method for Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) transmitters, built into this system.
The invention can be used in the rehabilitation of patients suffering from respiratory diseases such as asthma, tuberculosis or cystic fibrosis. The system can also work well at home, helping monitor the current state of health.
