Warsaw University students become European champions

Three students from the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics at the University of Warsaw (UW) have become the winners of the 1st European Academic Team Programming Championships (EUC 2024), which took place in Prague from 22 to 24 March. The European Championships are part of the Academic Team Programming World Championships.

Fifty-two teams, representing the best computer science universities, competed in this year’s European Championships.

The winners of the competition were representatives of the University of Warsaw, students from the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics: Arkadiusz Czarkowski, Bartłomiej Czarkowski and Tomasz Nowak. They solved nine out of eleven tasks prepared by the EUC 2024 organisers, while the other medalists solved eight tasks each, and their place in the ranking was determined by the time taken to solve them. 

In addition to the gold medal, two silver medals and three bronze medals were awarded. The silver medalists were teams from the University of Zagreb (2nd place) and Kiev Taras Shevchenko National University (3rd place). Bronze medals were won by teams representing Loránd Eötvös University in Budapest (4th place), the University of Wrocław (5th place) and École Normale Supérieure de Paris (6th place).
