Poznan University of Technology is among the implementers of the Rural BioReFarmeries project. The aim of the project is to demonstrate the first model of a decentralised green biorefinery and to demonstrate the feasibility of its replication in rural areas in Europe in order to increase their economic opportunities within the framework of sustainable development.

The project brings together 19 partners from 8 countries. A team from the Poznan University of Technology, led by Prof. Piotr Oleśkowicz-Popiel, will be responsible for developing the production of organic acids from green whey on a large laboratory scale and then launching the process on a demonstration scale.

The Poznan researchers are also responsible for the technical and economic analysis of the entire green biorefinery, which, in addition to acids, will also produce food additives, feed, biodegradable packaging materials and biogas.
